The proud creation of designer, Frederic Debackere weighs only 20 pounds and arrives folded flat 24"x52" and only 3/8" thick on delivery. Slimmy arrives with a protective film cover which peels off the surface when ready to display. The chair is made of a 24"x 108", 4 millimeter (3/16") composite material of PVC and aluminum, which has an outdoor durability of 25 years. The chair unfolds manually and requires only 4 screws to assemble, two on the lower back panel and two on the seat panel. The material itself serves as the hinges, using its own strength the material is crimped for bending. The seat bottom is set stationary by the triangulation support while the top has minimal flexibility. This chair demonstrates the properties of the material characteristics and potential. Tension and compression forces are solved by combining the square and the isosceles triangle, based on the idea of scaffolding structure. Each panel of the chair relates to the other eliminating any other material as reinforcement. Once, the chair is open the geometric design becomes a chair within a cubic shape. The chair is available in custom two color choices, one color on the exterior and another color on the interior. Slimmy can be assembled in two different positions, inclined at 100 degrees or upright straight back.

The designer, Frederic Debackere was inspired by pop up books he read as a child, the science of origami, and cardboard shipping insert. After a three year period of models the Slimmy brain teaser was solved. The main objective was achieved, to use a single sheet of material (24"x108") that would encompass the entire form of the chair.

Born Design presents Slimmy as the first design of The TAKEOFF Collection, lightweight furniture design for our fast paced environment. Upon meeting our newly born chair, we hope you will agree that Slimmy has broken the mold.
